Food & Drink

Rainey Street happy hour works best when you pick the setting first: a restaurant for snacks and margaritas, a cocktail bar for a slower drink, or a hotel dining room for an early date night. Anthem and Geraldine’s publish specific discounted menus; Half Step advertises a weekday happy-hour window but does not spell out its discounts on the current online menu.

Offers checked November 3, 2026. Prices below are menu prices before tax, tip and any applicable fees. Specials can change for holidays or private events; the official menus are linked beside each stop.

Anthem: margaritas and shareable snacks

Address: 91 Rainey Street, Suite 120, Austin.

Choose this Tex-Asian pub when the group wants a meal as well as drinks. Its happy-hour list includes an $8 house margarita, $8 ube espresso martini, $9 selected wine and $4 sake bombs. Add $8 chips and guacamole or $9 brisket rangoons. An $8 cocktail plus the $9 rangoons comes to $17 before tax and tip.

Monday–Wednesday opening is 3:30pm; Thursday–Sunday opening is noon. Saturday is not included in the advertised happy hour. Sunday is the useful exception for an unhurried daytime visit.

Half Step: a cocktail-focused stop with outdoor space

Address: 75½ Rainey Street, Austin.

Half Step is the cocktail-bar choice, with outdoor seating and an outdoor stage listed by Visit Austin. The official site advertises weekday happy hour until 7pm. Its posted opening times make that 4–7pm Monday–Thursday and noon–7pm Friday.

Ask before ordering: the online menu does not identify which drinks receive a happy-hour discount. Its regular menu lists $14 English Bramble and $14 Ivy Fizz cocktails, plus $7 mini freezer or dirty martinis. These are reference prices, not a claim that they are happy-hour deals. Check the music calendar if conversation volume matters to your group.

Geraldine’s: an early dinner with a parking perk

Address: 605 Davis Street, Austin.

The modern Mexican restaurant’s Dinner Before Dark menu runs daily from 5–6:30pm. Order $8 papas machas, a $10 tlayuda or six oysters for $14. Wine by the glass, draft beer and selected drinks are half off, including the Damn Good Margarita and two named nonalcoholic options. This is not a blanket discount on every cocktail.

The dining-room setting suits an early dinner. Live music is advertised Thursday–Sunday; check the performance time separately. Diners receive complimentary hotel valet for up to three hours; standard rates apply afterward. There is no hotel self-parking.

A nearby beer-garden alternative: Banger’s

For a beer-garden setting and sausages, consider Banger’s at 79–81½ Rainey Street, Austin. It is an alternative setting, not a verified discounted happy hour. Check the official menu and music calendar before making plans.

Google rating: 4.5/5 from 7,409 reviews in our listing’s Google Places snapshot, refreshed October 12, 2026. This rating covers the venue, not a specific offer. Read current Google reviews.

Where to park for Rainey Street happy hour

Compare the whole outing cost. A small drink discount can disappear into parking charges, so decide whether you want one restaurant or several stops before choosing a lot.

For Geraldine’s diners: Hotel Van Zandt valet

Use the dining valet benefit described above and confirm validation with the restaurant. Keep the three-hour limit in mind if you plan to continue elsewhere afterward.

For public paid parking: the MACC lot

The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center is at 600 River Street, Austin. Its public parking is paid; passes for cultural-center visitors are not a free-parking offer for bar customers. The lot can close to the public during large events.

The City’s rental-information page lists $2 per hour from 8am–6pm and a $5 flat evening rate from 6pm–3am, with meter enforcement Monday–Saturday. Paid time extending past 6pm adds the $5 evening charge. Check the current signs and PARKATX zone before paying; do not apply these rates to every nearby garage.

Map shows the cultural center and surrounding streets, not a reservation or guarantee of an available parking space. Follow posted entrance and event-closure signs.

Rideshare and walking

Rideshare avoids paying for a space and is the better plan if everyone will be drinking. Set pickup at a legal, accessible curb and check the app for temporary street restrictions. Use each venue’s Maps link rather than assuming the entrance faces the same street as your drop-off.

Plan the right kind of evening

Which option is best for a Sunday happy hour?

Anthem’s published offer runs all day Sunday. Geraldine’s has a shorter daily early-evening window. Half Step advertises weekdays only.

Which should we choose for food versus cocktails?

Our picks are Anthem for snacks and a casual meal, Geraldine’s for an early dinner, and Half Step for a cocktail-focused visit. Treat those as planning recommendations based on the published menus and venue descriptions, not a firsthand review.

Do we need a reservation?

Use the official reservation links for restaurant plans, especially with a larger group. A happy-hour window does not guarantee a table or a live-music seat. Confirm whether your requested seating area qualifies for the offer.
