Austin Trail of Lights runs December 10–23, 2026 at Zilker Park. For most visitors, the important decision is not which premium pass to buy: it is which night to attend and how everyone will get there. Free admission does not mean free parking, and a shuttle ticket already covers general admission.

Dates and entry options

General admission$0 on Dec 10–11 and 13–17; $8 ages 12+ on Dec 12 and 18–23Lowest-cost access; 7–10pm
ZIP$20–$25; ages 5 and under free with ZIP adult6pm access and lounge extras
Platinum$95; ages 5 and under free with Platinum adultPremium lounge and valet-inclusive experience
Parking pass$25–$35 per vehicleLimited close-in parking; advance purchase
Burger Center shuttle$10 per rider; lap children freeIncludes GA; Dec 12 and 18–23

Published pass prices are from the official ticket comparison. Children 11 and under have free general admission with a ticketed adult. ZIP includes cocoa, cookies and lounge access; Platinum adds valet, lounge amenities and drink/ride benefits. Check your selected date’s final total and terms before purchase. Choose a night and buy official tickets.

Which option costs less for your group?

Two adults on a paid GA night spend $16 on admission plus $25–$35 for parking: $41–$51 before checkout fees. Two $10 shuttle passes total $20 and already include admission, so do not add two separate GA tickets. For four adults, GA plus one parking pass totals $57–$67, versus $40 for four shuttles. These examples exclude food, rides and travel to the shuttle lot.

On a free night, the same group can put its admission savings toward transport. Compare the actual quote for a rideshare with the published parking price; surge pricing and the walk from the drop-off can change the decision. Early access may be useful for an earlier bedtime, but do not buy premium passes assuming the whole evening will be crowd-free.

Parking and getting to the entrance

Close-in parking must be prepaid online; there are no on-site parking sales. Follow the route in the parking confirmation rather than ordinary GPS directions. The organizer warns against parking in nearby neighborhoods. The designated rideshare point is 2107 Veterans Drive, followed by a walk over the footbridge toward the entrance. Official arrival instructions.

For shuttle nights, use Toney Burger Activity Center, where shuttle riders have free parking. Find the shuttle departure area. The 2026 organizer announcement confirms December 12 and 18–23 service. Save the ticket and return-trip instructions before leaving your car. A parking pass and a shuttle pass solve different problems; you normally choose one approach.

Do not confuse the Zilker Tree with the Trail

The City lists the Zilker Holiday Tree season as November 29–January 1, with the lighting ceremony November 29 at 6pm and pre-event music at 5:15pm. That is earlier than the Trail’s December 10 public opening. The tree stands on the south side of Zilker Park. On Trail event nights, special traffic restrictions replace ordinary drive-up access. City tree schedule and directions.

If your Thanksgiving visitors leave at the end of November, do not promise them a Trail of Lights walk. Consider the tree lighting if their dates fit, or use our Thanksgiving run comparison for a different holiday plan.

Family and accessibility planning

The Trail is an outdoor walking experience of about a mile. Strollers and small wagons are allowed; pets are not, apart from qualifying service animals. The event provides accessible routes and an accessibility entry program, but not loaner wheelchairs. Consult the accessibility and permitted-items policies for your party’s needs.

Pack for the forecast rather than the calendar: an outdoor queue can feel different from the walk itself. Agree on a meeting place before splitting up, keep a charged phone for tickets and transport, and avoid planning a second timed reservation immediately afterward. Food, attractions and souvenir spending need their own budget.
