Short answer: do not drive toward Zilker Park hoping to find street parking. ACL Festival has no parking at Zilker or in the surrounding neighborhoods. The least stressful plans are the official shuttle from Sand Beach Park, CapMetro Routes 3 or 803 followed by a roughly half-mile walk, biking to a staffed valet near Toomey Road, or reserving a legitimate paid garage before festival day. If you drive, treat the garage as the first leg of the trip, not as a front-row parking space.

2026 timing: ACL Festival Weekend Two is Friday, October 9 through Sunday, October 11, from noon to 10 p.m. each day. Weekend One received heavy rain, so expect soft or muddy ground even if the forecast is dry. Wear shoes you can clean and check the official festival app, weather, transit alerts, and street closures again on the morning you go.

ACL Festival 2026 dates, hours, and location

Austin City Limits Music Festival takes over Zilker Park for two weekends. Weekend One ran October 2-4. Weekend Two runs October 9-11, 2026, with gates scheduled from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day. The festival has nine stages and more than 100 performances, so the distance between sets is part of the day, not an afterthought.

Zilker Park is southwest of downtown beside Lady Bird Lake. That sounds close on a map, but festival closures change normal traffic patterns. Barton Springs Road is scheduled to close from Thursday evening, October 8, through Monday morning, October 12, and Azie Morton Road has daily festival restrictions. The Great Lawn remains closed for festival operations through October 18.

Use the official ACL entrance information and the City of Austin's park and street closure updates as the final word. Times and access can change for safety or weather.

Where to park for ACL Festival

There is no festival parking at Zilker Park and no authorized attendee parking in the surrounding neighborhoods. Do not plan around a residential curb, a business lot, or a park lot. Towing, temporary restrictions, resident-only access, and blocked streets can turn a cheap plan into the most expensive part of the weekend.

Hotel parkingYour hotel or a nearby downtown garageOvernight guestsConfirm in-and-out privileges and event pricing with the hotel. Do not assume a room includes parking.

The official festival transportation page currently points drivers to LAZ reservations for Barton Oaks and 1221 MoPac and to Austin High School's own reservation page. Buy only from the official links, read the cancellation terms, and screenshot the confirmation and walking directions in case cell service slows down.

Parking mistakes to avoid

  • Do not arrive without a reservation and expect a nearby garage to have space.
  • Do not park in neighborhoods around Barton Hills or Zilker. Festival guidance explicitly says there is no surrounding-neighborhood parking.
  • Do not leave valuables visible. Put bags in the trunk before arriving, not after you park.
  • Do not rely on your normal route. Barton Springs Road, Azie Morton Road, Stratford Drive, and nearby access points operate differently during the festival.
  • Do not forget the return walk. A route that feels easy at noon can feel much longer after ten hours at the festival.

Official ACL shuttle: the easiest default

For 2026, the official shuttle pickup moved to Sand Beach Park at Walter Seaholm Drive and Electric Drive. Shuttles begin running at 11:30 a.m. each festival day and drop passengers outside the Barton Springs West entrance. At the end of the night, the shuttle returns to the same downtown location.

This is the best all-around option if you are staying downtown, parking in a central garage, or taking transit into the Seaholm area. It avoids making your rideshare driver navigate the closest closures and gives you a clear return destination. The tradeoff is the line: headliners ending at roughly the same time can create a large post-show wave. Save the pickup point in your phone and agree on it as the group meeting place before entering the park.

CapMetro bus and rail plan

CapMetro recommends Routes 3, 30, and 803. Routes 3 and 803 stop near South Lamar Boulevard and Barton Springs Road, about a half-mile walk from the festival. Route 30 serves the Spyglass side near MoPac, although it is detoured around Barton Springs Road during ACL. A local bus ride is $1.25; use the Transit or Umo app for current routing and payment.

The Red Line can bring riders downtown from Leander, the Domain, and other station areas. From downtown, continue by bus, bike, shuttle, or walking. CapMetro says special Sunday rail service is scheduled for October 11 and the last trains leave downtown at 12:30 a.m. each ACL night. The Austin FC match at Q2 Stadium on Saturday, October 10 may add rail crowds, so allow more margin that day.

Biking, walking, and scooters

If you are already near downtown or South Austin, biking can be faster than sitting in festival traffic. CapMetro is operating a Bikeshare valet at 1732 Toomey Road. Festival bicycle parking is also listed on Stratford Drive after the MoPac pedestrian bridge and on Azie Morton Road across from UMLAUF Sculpture Garden. Additional bike and scooter parking is planned along Toomey Road and Sterzing Street.

Approach on the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail where practical, use lights after dark, and walk your bike in crowded pedestrian zones. Lock personal bikes only in designated areas. Take a screenshot of the parking location and note which side of the park you used; the site feels very different after dark.

Rideshare without the post-show headache

Entering "Austin City Limits Music Festival" or "Zilker Park" in Lyft should route you toward the current festival drop-off area. Do not manually drop a pin beside the park and expect the driver to reach it. Closures and traffic control determine the actual destination.

For the return trip, the fastest strategy is often to walk away from the densest pickup zone before requesting a car. Choose a well-lit, legal pickup point your whole group can identify. Expect surge pricing and slow matching immediately after the final headliner. If the app shows a long wait, walk toward South Lamar, downtown, or your reserved garage and request again only after you reach a safe pickup location.

Which ACL entrance should you use?

  • Lady Bird entrance: approach from the north by crossing the pedestrian bridge under MoPac. This works well for Austin High parking and some west-downtown routes.
  • Barton Springs East: approach from the South Lamar/east side of Barton Springs Road. Routes 3 and 803 are useful for this side. In 2026, families with small children have a dedicated lane at this entrance.
  • Barton Springs West: the official shuttle drops outside this entrance, making it the simplest choice for shuttle riders.

The shortest map distance is not always the shortest line. Follow live signs and staff instructions rather than crossing the park perimeter to chase a different entrance.

Weekend Two mud and weather strategy

Weekend One followed roughly two inches of rain and left sections of the Great Lawn muddy. Organizers are working on ground protection and recovery before Weekend Two, but a sunny forecast will not instantly dry heavily traveled turf. Plan for soft ground, uneven footing, and slower movement between stages.

  • Wear broken-in boots, trail shoes, or sneakers you are willing to clean. Avoid open sandals on soft turf.
  • Bring a lightweight poncho if rain is possible; umbrellas are prohibited.
  • Pack dry socks in a sealed bag and leave a second pair of shoes in the car or hotel.
  • Use a small towel or allowed blanket you do not mind getting dirty.
  • Charge your phone fully and carry a permitted portable battery.
  • Build extra transfer time between stages. Mud turns a ten-minute crossing into a longer one.

Weather and festival operations can change quickly. Check the official ACL app and local alerts before departing, especially if storms, lightning, flooding, or extreme heat enter the forecast.

What to bring and the 2026 bag rules

Small clutch purses and fanny packs measuring 6 by 9 inches or smaller do not need to be clear, but may have no more than one pocket. Larger bags must be clear and smaller than 12 by 6 by 12 inches. Hydration packs do not need to be clear, but must arrive empty and are limited to two main compartments plus one smaller compartment. Every bag is searched.

Useful allowed items include an empty reusable bottle or hydration pack, a basic point-and-shoot camera, binoculars, blankets or towels, a portable battery, a small non-aerosol sunscreen of 3.4 ounces or less, sealed electrolyte packets, and a small empty misting fan. Chairs are allowed, but not inflatable chairs or chairs with shade structures.

Leave umbrellas, coolers, outside food and drinks, glass, professional camera gear, drones, selfie sticks, pets other than service animals, wagons, large carts, aerosol sunscreen, and smoking or vaping products at home. The policy is subject to change, so review the official bag policy and allowed and prohibited items before packing.

Things to do in Austin before and after ACL

The smartest festival add-ons are close to your hotel or transportation route. Do not schedule a cross-town reservation between afternoon sets. Save bigger experiences for Thursday, Monday, or a morning when you are comfortable entering the festival later.

Downtown and Seaholm

If you are using the official shuttle, build your plan around Seaholm, the west side of downtown, and Lady Bird Lake. Walk the trail in the morning, eat downtown, then move toward Sand Beach Park. After the festival, downtown gives you more late-night options without another long drive.

Barton Springs and South Lamar

Barton Springs Pool remains open during the festival period, but festival weekends limit pool access to the Azie Morton Road entrance and surrounding parking is heavily restricted. Treat the pool as a walk, bike, or rideshare plan and verify same-day hours. South Lamar is useful for food before the festival and as a rideshare escape route afterward, but reservations and traffic margins matter.

Party buses and private group transportation

A private bus can keep a group together for airport pickups, dinner, nightlife, and the trip toward a legal festival drop-off point. It does not bypass street closures or create a private entrance, so confirm the provider's ACL pickup and drop-off plan before paying.

Indoor and rain-backup ideas

If weather disrupts your non-festival hours, use an indoor attraction rather than waiting in a car near Zilker. The Blanton Museum of Art, Bullock Texas State History Museum, LBJ Presidential Library, Museum of the Weird, bowling, escape rooms, indoor mini golf, and a long lunch are practical resets. Verify current tickets and hours before going.

For a broader backup list, use our indoor things to do in Austin and bookable Austin experiences.

The morning after

Keep the next morning simple: brunch near your hotel, coffee, a gentle trail walk, a pool reservation, or a short scenic activity. If your legs are done, choose a food and drink experience or a guided city tour instead of another standing-heavy day.

Families and accessibility

Families with small children can use the dedicated 2026 family lane at the Barton Springs East entrance. Strollers up to 31 by 52 inches are allowed, but stroller wagons and wagons are prohibited. Add ear protection, identification inside the child's clothing or wristband, and a photographed meeting point to the plan.

Guests who need accessible parking, entry, viewing, medication support, or other accommodations should review the festival's current ADA information before arriving. Prescription medication must follow the festival's labeled-container requirements. Do not rely on general parking advice when an accessibility accommodation is needed; use the official instructions for the relevant credential and entrance.

How to leave ACL without losing your group

  1. Choose the exit before the last set. Match it to your shuttle, bike, transit stop, or parked car.
  2. Pick a physical meeting point. "Near the gate" is not specific enough. Use a sign, intersection, or landmark outside the crowd flow.
  3. Screenshot directions. Cell networks can slow when everyone leaves.
  4. Do not split into different transportation modes accidentally. Confirm whether the group is taking the shuttle, walking to a garage, or requesting rideshare.
  5. Wait in a lit public place. If rideshare surges, walk together toward downtown or South Lamar before requesting again.

ACL Festival parking and planning FAQ

Can I park at Zilker Park for ACL?

No. The official festival guidance says there is no attendee parking at Zilker Park or in the surrounding neighborhoods. Reserve an authorized garage, use the shuttle, take CapMetro, bike, walk, or use rideshare.

Where is the ACL shuttle in 2026?

The official shuttle boards at Sand Beach Park at Walter Seaholm Drive and Electric Drive. Service begins at 11:30 a.m. and drops outside the Barton Springs West entrance.

What is the cheapest way to get to ACL?

For many visitors, CapMetro is the cheapest paid option. A local bus ride is listed at $1.25, and Routes 3 and 803 stop about a half-mile from the festival. Walking or biking may cost less if you are staying nearby.

How early should I arrive?

For a noon opening, reach your transportation handoff around 10:45-11:30 a.m. That leaves time for parking, shuttle or transit waits, walking, security, and a water stop. Arrive earlier when weather, a major set, or Saturday crowds increase demand.

Will Zilker still be muddy for Weekend Two?

Weekend One left muddy conditions after heavy rain. Organizers are working on the grounds, but plan for soft or muddy turf and check the latest official updates. Wear practical shoes and carry dry socks.

Can I bring an umbrella?

No. Umbrellas are on the prohibited-items list. Use a lightweight poncho and check the bag rules before leaving.

Can I go to Barton Springs Pool during ACL?

The City says the pool remains open through the festival period, but weekend access is limited to the Azie Morton Road entrance and nearby roads and lots are restricted. Confirm current pool hours and do not expect normal parking.

Is a party bus a good ACL option?

It can be useful for keeping a group together, but it must follow the same closures and approved drop-off rules as other vehicles. Confirm the exact festival transportation plan with the operator.

Final ACL checklist

  • Wristband activated and on the correct wrist
  • Official app, schedule, and map downloaded
  • Parking reservation or transit plan confirmed
  • Entrance and group meeting point selected
  • Bag measured and prohibited items removed
  • Empty water bottle or hydration pack
  • Portable battery and screenshots saved
  • Mud-ready shoes, dry socks, and a poncho if needed
  • Return route and late-night backup agreed upon
Last check: festival policies, transportation operations, weather, and closures can change. Review the official ACL transportation page, CapMetro service alerts, and City of Austin closure notices on the day you attend.
