Hopfields opened in November 2011 by Bay Anthon to bring Austin a comfortable and casual yet classy space to imbibe on high-quality craft beers, wines, and cocktails while enjoying home-style French cooking. In other words, you do not want to miss out on this spot. The back story is the owner is a longtime Austinite and felt the city needed a spot that married comfy with sophisticated, modern with classic, feminine with masculine, high quality with simplicity. Therefore, they created Hopfields which welcomes all to join for a cozy date night, family brunch, or a burger and beer at the bar while you wait out the city’s rush hours.
The owner's mother-in-law comes from a diverse family of American, French, and Greek heritage. She spent much of her childhood in France, observing her French grandmother "mémère" and her Greek grandfather, "pépère" in the kitchen preparing modest but high-quality meals for their family of 12. Which, served as the inspiration for the menu which is diverse, yet decidedly French - with everything made from scratch in-house, the use of local farm-fresh produce, and seasonally appropriate offerings.
The owner, Bay Anthon, started his obsession with craft beer over 15 years ago, and naturally; French food marries with good wine. Hopfields now has an exceptional wine program, but they also feel that craft beer can offer even more dynamic pairings and opportunities for diversity. Overall, Hopfields loves the growth and creativity of the American craft beer scene curating a unique, rare, and quality selection of beers.
In conclusion, we strongly recommend checking out Hopfield and tasting their high-quality craft beer and french style cooking.
