In 2010, Circle Brewing Co. was founded by childhood friends, Ben Sabel and Judson Mulherin. We began with little money and an over-abundance of passion. With some help from our friends and family, we pooled the money to retain a lease and start construction on the brewery in March of that year. After a long and grueling buildout, a few equipment delays, and a peppering of a little good and a little bad luck, we brewed our first batch of beer on December 9th, 2010, our ENVY Amber.
Like many brewers, we had an unusual path to brewing beer. After graduating from Purdue in 2004, Jud followed his passion of all things aeronautical, becoming an aviation mechanic and contractor in Denver and then San Diego. Ben graduated from the University of Miami in 2004 with degrees in Finance and Economics. Supplementing his business education, Ben became a Boilermaker as well, earning his MBA at Purdue in 2006. He found his way after grad school to Los Angeles to make it big in the Talent Agency business. Despite our successes in our respective industries, we had no passion for what we did. And working for others never suited either of us.
We had brewed beer since we were kids growing up in Nashville. Back then, it was always in some terrible contraption that led to mixed results (either disgusting or undrinkable), but it was fun. We always loved beer (how could we not?), and after some serious thought and a little hands-on brewery experience, we made the leap. We packed up our stuff and moved to Austin in 2008 to open our brewery.
Combining the principles of the German Purity Law of 1516 with a little creativity & Texas ingenuity, Circle Brewing Co. endeavors to create a better beer. 21+
Since 2010, Circle Brewing Company have been abiding by the philosophy that less is more. Circle endeavors to create better beer using simply water, malt, hops, yeast, and absolutely nothing else.
