Event overview

What this event is about

I Like Different Kinds of Birds features artwork by Yesenia Duran in collaboration with SAGE Studio & Gallery, a nonprofit art space in east Austin that supports the work of artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Inspired by the famous peacocks of Mayfield Park, this exhibition showcases the various birds that call Austin home. Scan the QR code to access a virtual field guide, created by the artist to share her passion for animal facts and inspire us to look upward. Duran (b. 1999) is an Austin-based artist whose practice focuses on members of the animal kingdom. Pulling inspiration from nature guides, Duran creates encyclopedic collections of drawings chronicling a wide variety of species. She uses both drawing and text to create work that is beautiful, detailed, and informative. When she's not in the studio, Duran enjoys spending time outside, playing with her dogs and raising and releasing Monarch butterflies. "I like to draw plants, animals, and nature because they are very fascinating. I was born in the Year of the Rabbit and that's where I got my talent. I get ideas for what to draw from my head, the internet, and field guides." - Yesenia Duran TEMPORARY ART INSTALLATION AUGUST & SEPTEMBER EXHIBITION 2026, Located in Mayfield Park & Preserve Preserve, 3505 W 35th St, Austin, TX 78703 The ROAM Museum is a traveling exhibition set within Austin’s park preserves, celebrating these protected landscapes through site-responsive art.
