Event overview

What this event is about

This Community Performance Ritual will include 3 short sets from contemporary sound with various acoustic instrumentation. Think of this as under water chamber music with a wide range of moods. If you like dynamics and/or New Music, this is the place for you. This is an all ages event. Street parking in the neighborhood. Arrive early to give yourself adequate time to find a parking spot. Oakland-based composer Matt Ingalls performs his 30-minute continuous micro-timbre clarinet solo, an improvisatory composition honed over a decade. A physical tour-de-force, the piece utilizes circular breathing to explore the outer limits of the instrument. Exploring extended techniques that interact with the acoustic space, he often acoustically synthesizes difference tones that are perceived to originate inside the listener's ear. mattingalls.com Peter Stopschinski presents his new trio featuring Henna Chou and Sam Arnold. 30-minutes of his slowest music yet. Saturated with effects, sumptuous, electric, meditative, and melodic instrumentals that draw from Eric Satie, Soap Operas, and Soul Music. Peter Stopschinski will also perform excerpts from his solo piano arrangement of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring entitled The Massacre of Spring. Julie Slim (Sleem) julieslim.com and her partner, pianist Shawn Ellison shawnellison.com will perform some of their original collaborative songs, with lyrics in several languages. They will also share a totally improvised piece with guest cellist, Henna Chou, inspired by audience member input. This concert will be a story-based musical journey taken from snippets of their lives.
