Uncommon Objects Overview

Dozens of inspired & talented antique dealers have been involved in the creative growth of Uncommon Objects.
UO was born in 1991 as the brainchild of current proprietor, Steve Wiman, and his business partner at the time, Ed Gage. Steve and Ed grew the business from its original small location which housed 5 dealers to the larger space that the shop occupies today where 24 hardworking antiquers currently show and sell their treasures.

Ed Gage moved on to help create the Marburger Farm Antique Show out in Roundtop, Texas. This weeklong event happens twice a year and is now one of the largest and most respected shows of its kind. As Ed moved on, D’Ette Cole from Clutter, another well loved show which is part of the Roundtop antique experience joined Steve as co-owner of UO. Steve and D’Ette nurtured the shop into an aesthetically mature retail environment, creating a recognizable Uncommon Objects look.

Since 2006, Steve has been sole proprietor and under his benevolent dictatorship, the Uncommon aesthetic has blossomed. Steve’s art making (he earned an MFA in studio art from UT in 1986) celebrates texture, color and patina and also informs the visual merchandising at UO. It is with the aid of the talented staff and the amazing people who have been hand selected to sell their goods at UO that the venture flourishes.

This antiques Mecca recently relocated to South Austin from South Congress Avenue continues to attract sightseers, sophisticated shoppers and celebrities alike. With a reverence for history and a love of the old, Uncommon Objects is a genuinely green shopping experience with a little something for everyone.
